It wasn’t that long ago that elders were considered to be an integral and necessary part of society. There were a set of cultural expectations for how elders develop their wisdom and then serve their community in that role. Elders were expected to be the keepers of the wisdom and were honored as the revered leaders of the tribe or family, They were responsible for mentoring the young and keeping the stories and traditions alive. But sad to say, in our youth obsessed culture and our changing society, this is often not the case.
This is especially true for many older women who have a lifetime of experience, knowledge, great wisdom and rich stories to tell and yet all too often feel invisible, unheard and just not listened to.
Wise Woman Storytime was created to continue the tradition of honoring the gifts of our elders by providing a platform and shining the spotlight on our elder women so that we may all benefit from their life experiences through their personal stories.
Wise Woman Storytime airs the 3rd, 4th and 5th Thursdays of each month from 12 – 1pm. This is a show by older women, for men and women of all ages. Listeners are invited to call the studio to join in the conversation, ask questions, make comments and share their stories.
